Their names are Peter and Jort and they are Dutch. I've always had a soft spot for blond ponytails, like the one worn by Peter. We got a coffee together outside the Palenque bus station and decided where to go from there. We ended up in a beautiful Jungle campground, hanging hammocks up to sleep in the cool night air. The sounds of jungle beasts was nearly enough to keep you awake all night. And if that didn't keep you up, the mosquitoes did. Our days in Palenque were spent lying in our hammocks, and exploring the jungle. One of our favorite jungle spots was the "secret" waterfall that lay just beyond the Myan ruins. We spent a couple days just playing around in the cool waters and shade there. Night time was a time to relax (some more) and have a Cuba Libre or Cervesa at the Italian restaurant next door. One night in particular, Peter and I stayed up until the wee hours chatting with the bartender after the bar closed. We spent the whole evening discussing the faeries (fireflies), the moon, and various other unnamable creatures we heard and saw that evening. Peter even saved my life when a ferocious 8.5meter Tree Aligator attacked me. He was so brave. (NOTE: some of these stories were entirely made up... by Peter) ![peter at the waterfall](https://alison00.tripod.com//sitebuildercontent/sitebuilderpictures/peterwaterfall.jpg) |
