The boys and I caught a boat over to San Pedro. They were keen to get out of Gringotenango as soon as possible. San Pedro is a lovely little town under a volcano. Our first couple of nights we stayed at a little place that had a kitchen and was infested with flies. I can't begin to explain how many flies there were. We hung a clear plastic bag in our doorway (to ward off the evil fly spirits?) but it didn't help. At night when we came home from Nick's Place, we'd find them all sleeping on the ceiling, literally covering every square inch. We managed to adopt a couple of dogs and a puppy for the first couple of days, they followed us everywhere but we lost them when we moved accross town to our new home. Our new home was Casa Rosario. It is a beautiful place that has a primary function of being a Spanish School, but had several rooms available, so we moved in. There was a fabulous kitchen, so we cooked a great deal of our own food. ![Casa Rosario... click!](https://alison00.tripod.com/casarosario.jpg)
Our San Pedro days were relaxed and structured, as the boys were studying Spanish in the afternoons. We would wake up in the morning, which was usually hot and sunny, head down to the lake for a swim, cook some breakfast, and get back to Casa Rosario in time for class. While the boys were in school, I would putter about making jewlery with my little 10 yr old Sweedish friend who was traveling the world with her mom (also studying spanish). After school, we would either head out to the shop/markets to buy some food to cook, or if we were feeling lazy, we'd brave the rain and head down to Nick's Place where every night there was a movie showing and pretty great food. |
